About The American Museum & Gardens

History of the American Museum & Gardens

Created by Dr. Dallas Pratt and John Judkyn, this Ango-American partnership began collecting for the museum in 1958 and opened to the public in 1961. Their goal was to display American decorative arts and dispel American cultural stereotypes. Decades later, the American Museum remains the only museum outside of the United States to showcase the decorative arts of the United States.

Claverton Manor, an 1820 manor house that is the home of the American Museum & Gardens.

The mission of the American Museum & Gardens is to simulate and inspire people of all ages and further their understanding of the complexity of American culture.
