This exhibition celebrates the work of African American women from the remote river island community of Gee's Bend in Alabama, USA. The exhibitions embody a 200-year tradition of making quilts holding a profound artistic and political significance.
These quilts celebrate both African American heritage and a testament to the strength and creativity of women in the face of systemic oppression.

14 February 2026 to 3 January 2027
Throughout the year the American Museum will explore the ideas, events, and people behind the American Revolution and reflect on its lasting legacy.
Throughout the museum there will be America250 displays highlighting the fascinating history of the US and UK during this time period.
Exhibitions will include a full-scale replica of the Declaration of Independence as well as objects and human stories from the time period.

14 February 2026 to 3 January 2027
Throughout the year the American Museum and Gardens will take a closer look at the American garden designs that make the museum unique to Bath and Somerset.
The gardens will feature sections designed by world-renowned US designer Oehme van Sweden, a replica of George Washington's Mount Vernon, Virginia garden, and contemporary and historic spaces for America250 and the transatlantic ties that link them.

1 June 2026
Professor David Olusoga OBE will be welcomed back to the American Museum and Gardens to lecture on the Declaration of Independence 250 years on.
