The Station Cinema in Richmond (North Yorkshire) are set to screen the film, "Liberty of Conscience: the founding of Maryland".
The film tells the story of George Calvert, first owner of nearby Kiplin Hall and founder of Maryland in the USA. Much of the footage was filmed on location at Kiplin Hall and Gardens, featuring many Richmondshire residents in the cast.
Founding Maryland in 1634 and its governorship under the Calverts sets the scene for events to come across the states including the Declaration of Independence.
Following this journey of discovery seen on screen cinema goers can jump forward in time to 1776 and get up close and personal with 'loyalists' and 'patriots' during a living history encampment at Kiplin Hall in August. Complete with musket fire and red coats!

Experience what life was like during the American Revolution (1765 – 1783) re-enacted here on British soil. Kiplin Hall shares it origin story with Maryland in the USA via the Calvert family and the Barons Baltimore.
At this living history event discover the sights and smells of 18th century cooking at our encampment on the west lawn. Costumed re-enactors will demonstrate a skirmish and cannon fire in replica military uniform of the period. Meet ‘loyalists’ fighting to remain under British rule, and ‘patriots’ who desire independence.
During the revolution 13 British North American colonies rejected imperial rule and fought for their independence. Considered by some to be rebels and revolutionaries at the time, they formed the United States of America. Independence Day is celebrated in the USA on the 4th of July each year, remembering the signing of the Declaration of Independence, 250 years ago.
Set to the backdrop of George Calvert’s home this event is sure to be a spectacle in a truly unique setting.
